·         1950s- Transistor was invented making radios more portable and smaller in size

·         1950s- Australian commercial radio repeatedly played American Rock ‘n’ Roll artists

·         1950s- Cinema technology was forced to improve due to the threat of television

·         1956- television was introduced

·         1956- 16th Summer Olympics held in Melbourne

·         1960s- videotapes were introduced

·         Late 1960s- Australians started to dislike the commercial radio formats

·         1964- Australian Troops sent to fight alongside America in Vietnam

·         1965- Indigenous Australians gain right to vote in state of Queensland

·         1966- The Australian currency is changed to dollars and cents, with the Australian Dollar replacing the Australian pound.

·         1967- Talk-back radio was introduced

·         1968- Australia’s whole telecommunications system was connected to the international satellite system

·         Early 1970s- Women constituted one-third of the workplace

·         1970s- FM radio was introduced

·         1971- Indigenous people were counted in the National population for the first time

·         1972- Australians were withdrawn from Vietnam

·         1972- Gough Whitlam’s Labor Government came to power

·         1972- The Whitlam Government ruled that women doing the same job as men should be paid the same wage

·         1972- Australia recognises the People’s Republic of China

·         1973- The White Australian Policy was abolished

·         1975- Television channels started to show programs in colour

·         1975- Gough Whitlam was dismissed by John Kerr, Governor-General

·         1976- The Aboriginal Land Rights Act was established

·         1979- Women won the right to be paid maternity leave.
